The two sides are discussing a 10-year, $300 million deal that would keep Stanton in Miami long-term. Stanton's representatives have also discussed shorter deals with the franchise. General manager Dan Jennings said the two sides have had "continual dialogue," but added "I wouldn't say we're close to anything."
The 25-year-old Stanton is coming off an incredible season in which he hit .288/.395/.555, with 37 home runs, over 539 at-bats. If he doesn't agree to an extension, Stanton would become a free-agent in 2017.

"I just hope guys don't get caught up in trying to change too much," Collins said, per NJ.com. "I don't want to give David Wright a chance to hit home runs. I want David Wright to be a good hitter. As I told him, when he's swinging a bat good, he's dangerous. I'll take some balls off the wall."
Wright hit just eight home runs in 134 games last season. He has just 46 home runs and a .452 slugging percentage in 399 games at Citi Field since 2009.

"The ingredients are there. He can be a complete player. He can be an above-average defender in center, but I still think he needs to tighten up some things, and he's been doing that in the Fall League," Anthopoulos said, per Sportsnet.ca. "Continue to get better with his routes, continue to get better with his throwing mechanics and not getting on the side of the ball, getting on top of the ball, because he’s got the arm-strength, and continue to have quality at-bats. That's what we like about his offensive game. He grinds out at-bats, he'll work a walk. It’s a quality at-bat each time."

"We have no set number [of innings] to put on Matt, but certainly we might skip him here and there once in a while, just to save him," Collins said, per Newsday. "That will all be explained to him and there'll be arguments and he'll throw a tantrum in the office but it's all part of the job because he wants to pitch and he wants to win.
"He's dying to get on the mound. He'll be down in Florida in January ... You know him. The first bullpen, there's going to be 30 [reporters] standing around, TV cameras -- 'Matt, you don't need to throw 100 here. It's about getting in shape.' We'll have to rein him in on a daily basis. I know he's really excited because he feels great."
