One Halliburton worker dead, two injured in Colorado accident

HOUSTON — Halliburton Co. confirmed that one of its employees died and two others were taken to a hospital following an accident in Colorado Thursday.

Around 9:30 a.m., a high-pressure water line that froze overnight exploded when workers tried to thaw it, the Denver Post reported.

The accident happened north of Fort Lupton, Colorado, about halfway between Denver and Greeley, at an Anadarko site.

The newspaper reported the Weld County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death and said the agency attributed the accident to a high-pressure valve that ruptured.

Halliburton told Fuel Fix in a statement that it’s working with local authorities that are investigating the details of the accident. “Our thoughts and prayers are with our employees’ loved ones,” the company said in a statement, adding that it wouldn’t be releasing further details — including the employees’ names — at this point.

An Anadarko spokesman said the exploration and production company has suspending all of its completion activities in the area. “This tragic accident, associated injuries and contractor’s loss of life has left us all shaken and heartbroken,” Anadarko said in a statement.
