City dwellers need to get away from the cement sometimes. So when it’s time to take in the fresh air and the pristine views of the Texas landscape, there are cabins aplenty in the North Texas area to rest your hat. On the shores of lakes, parks and ranches, these wooden hideaways have ample amenities and a surplus of good times to be had right off the front porch.

This two-bedroom cabin, nestled in the grass at Stone Cabin Ranch, is a short 20-mile trip from Dallas, but much farther back in time. With décor reminiscent of the late 1800s, the stress of modern life will fade as the city streets do in the distance. After hiking the natural expanse of the property, guests can arrange for guided ATV tours or bring their own horses along. Nearby at the limestone creeks, little ones can hunt for fossils and other treasures.
