The name Sam Pack is synonymous with cars in North Texas, and this weekend more than 100 of his prized collectibles will hit the auction block.
RM Auctions will feature 132 cars from Sam Pack's Five Star Collection at 10 a.m. Saturday at his automotive facility, 13801 Diplomat Drive in Farmers Branch.
Highlighting the auction will be three Shelby Cobras from the early 1960s valued from $350,000 up to $1.4 million.
All the cars will be sold without reserve, meaning there's no minimum price and they will be sold to the highest bidder.
Pack, who owns four North Texas Ford dealerships, has at least 300 cars in his personal collection. The auction will shrink his collection down to a more manageable level. But, he will continue being active in the hobby.
He spends extensive time and attention to each car and employs an army to keep them maintained.
"More often than not, most collectors are not able to speak to every one of their cars," said Ian Kelleher, a car specialist with RM auctions. "This is a priority for him. He loves collecting and he loves his cars, and it shows."
He estimated the total value of the cars being auctioned at $8 million to $10 million.
Other must-see cars include a 2006 Ford GT valued at $300,000 to $400,000. The supercar has less than 13 miles on the odometer and plastic on the seats.
There's a 1957 Ford Thunderbird with a rare three-speed transmission and overdrive purchased by Pack in 2002. The car has had three owners.
And for Mustang fans, there's the 1970 Mustang Boss 302 in Grabber Blue with black bucket seats. Proceeds from the sale of the car go to benefit Holy Angels, a residential and training campus for people with intellectual and development disabilities. The car is valued between $85,000 to $100,000.
