George P. Bush – Managing Principal

Prior to founding St. Augustine, George led management of investor relations functions in addition to sourcing and providing analysis of potential investment opportunities with Pennybacker Capital—a middle market private equity firm he co-founded in 2007. Pennybacker Capital invests in and operates middle market multifamily, retail, office and industrial assets in sustainable growth markets with a primary focus on the four major Texas markets. Pennybacker Capital targets discounted properties and debt instruments that are complex, off market, and/or undervalued.

Prior to Pennybacker, he practiced corporate and securities law with Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld LLP conducting legal due diligence and preparing transaction documents in connection with mergers, acquisitions, offerings, credit facilities, securities filings and divestitures for private equity clients and publicly held corporations. While practicing in the Investment Funds Group at Akin Gump, he was selected as one of Texas Monthly's "Rising Stars" (2005). After graduating from law school, he clerked for the Honorable Sidney A. Fitzwater, a U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Texas. George received his undergraduate degree from Rice University and obtained his Juris Doctorate from The University of Texas School of Law. He is a member of the Texas Bar Association.

George has been involved with a variety of non-profit organizations ranging from leading a $30MM capital campaign for Big Brothers Big Sisters in North Texas to serving as Chairman of the Dallas Celebration of Reading that on average raises $1MM annually for the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. George is currently Tarrant County Chairman for Uplift Education—a highly successful Dallas-based public charter network focused on closing the achievement gap in inner-city public schools. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin, Texas.

 

 

Malachi O. Boyuls – Managing Principal

Prior to joining St. Augustine Capital Partners, Malachi Boyuls was an attorney in Dallas at Gibson, Dunn, & Crutcher LLP, where he practiced in the firm's regulatory groups, including antitrust, energy, securities, and intellectual property. In addition to merger and deal analysis, litigation, and representing clients facing government investigations, his practice included analyzing and comparing regulations and proposed regulations, drafting reports assessing the risk and impact of such regulations, and working with clients to draft standards and best practices to avoid certain regulatory risks.

He graduated from New York University School of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Annual Survey of American Law. During law school, Malachi worked for then-Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr., now a Supreme Court Justice. Following graduation, he clerked for Federal District Court Judge David C. Godbey in Dallas and Federal Appeals Court Judge Harris L Hartz in Albuquerque, N.M.

Malachi, along with his wife Shelby, is active in his state and community. Malachi is member of the Richardson ISD Budget Committee. In 2010, Governor Perry appointed Malachi to the Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board where he helped set policy for the state agency charged with safeguarding the public interest and protecting consumers of real estate services; Malachi chaired TALCB's budget committee. The Boyuls are the parents of two young children.

 

 

Julie A. Baumgartner – Controller

As the Controller for St. Augustine Capital Partners, Julie serves as the administrative, financial, and risk management operator. She develops financial and operational strategies, oversees ongoing development, and monitors control systems. Julie also manages accounting, human resources, and investor relations. Prior to joining St. Augustine Capital Partners, Julie held a position with the Burleson Independent School District, where she assisted in district regulatory guidance, compliance, and a variety of administrative tasks.

Julie currently serves in the United States Army Reserves as an Equal Opportunity Advisor. She focuses on equal treatment of all individuals and identification of discriminatory practices in work environments to improve organizational climates. She honorably served in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Military Police Officer, displaying her vast ability to manage and develop subordinates. Julie is the recipient of many military awards and citations including induction into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club. While actively serving Julie also graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management.

Julie is engaged in community service, currently serving as the President of the Alamo City Chapter of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, Treasurer of the Centennial Spartan Cheer Booster Club, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. As an active family, Julie, her husband and daughter stay involved with a variety of non-profit organizations that benefit military veterans and youth in the local DFW Area.

 

 

 

John J. Owen – Lead Analyst

Prior to joining St. Augustine Capital Partners, John was a Credit Specialist with F&M Bank and Trust where he underwrote both private and commercial transactions. John provided banking recommendations through the engineering of detailed lending models to examine client financials, liquidity, collateral, and market position in order to evaluate capital risk.

John was also Vice President at Fulcrum Capital Holdings, LLC – a boutique investment group that focuses on the distressed and special situations markets. At Fulcrum, John sourced transactions, trading a variety of distressed assets that included bank debt, promissory notes, trade claims, and other types of structured products. He also was part of a strategy team assembled to influence the reorganization and liquidation processes of several bankruptcies in order to enhance recoveries for creditors.

John is a graduate of the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. He was a member of the Financial Analyst Program and served as an analyst for the MBA investment fund where he focused on energy and transportation. John is involved in local charitable organizations and is an active member in the Fort Worth community.

Amanda L. Bush – Outside General Counsel

Amanda Bush serves as Outside General Counsel for St. Augustine Capital Partners, LLC and is a partner at Jackson Walker, LLP. Mrs. Bush provides legal advice and oversees St. Augustine Capital Partners' legal matters. She is admitted to practice law in Texas and in the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas.

Mrs. Bush serves on the Board of Directors of the Van Cliburn Foundation, and she annually chairs the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy's Dallas/Fort Worth Celebration of Reading. In addition, she serves on the Advance Team of The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Ms. Bush serves on the Executive and Steering Committees of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center's Dallas/Fort Worth "A Conversation With a Living Legend," and she chaired the Living Legend luncheon in 2012, which featured Prime Minister Tony Blair being interviewed by Greta Van Susteren. Finally, she serves on the Executive Committee for the University of Texas School of Law Alumni Association.

Mrs. Bush was the 2012 recipient of the Dallas Regional Chamber's ATHENA award. She was named a "Rising Star" (2007-2014) by Thomson Reuters. She has also been named a "Top Attorney" by Fort Worth, Texas magazine for six consecutive years. In 2012, Mrs. Bush was named to the Fort Worth Business Press's prestigious "40 Under 40" list.

Mrs. Bush received her B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from The University of Texas and her J.D. degree from The University of Texas School of Law. During law school, she was the Administrative Editor for The Review of Litigation law journal. Mrs. Bush is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
