The Atlantic quoted an unnamed senior White House official calling Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu “chickenshit,” for failing to compromise with Palestinians or the Sunni Arab states. “Certainly that’s not the administration’s view,” a US official quickly asserted. German exports to Russia plummet.
In August, goods worth 2.3 billion euros were exported from Deutschland to the Russian Federation. That’s down 26.3% year-over-year. Thank sanctions and Russia’s ban on Western food for that. This isn’t helping things in Germany, where economic growth is already sputtering.October 29, 2014
Officials point to Kremlin in hacking of the White House.
Nothing was broken in the breach, said anonymous White House officials, who told the Washington Post that the hackers were probably working for Russian intelligence. Computers storing classified information weren’t compromised, they said. Ferrari will become its own company by the end of next year, with Fiat listing 10% of the shares in the super-car maker and then giving the rest to shareholders. Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, who lead Ferrari for 23 years, stepped down earlier this month.October 29, 2014
A pilot strike costs Air France-KLM €330 million.
Two weeks of industrial action last month contributed to a more than 50% annual fall in the airline’s third-quarter operating profit, which was €247 million ($315 million). Europe’s second-largest network carrier said it would focus on “dynamic management” throughout 2015 to make up for lost earnings, but denied it has plans to slash jobs.

The video game company recorded third-quarter net income of 24.2 billion yen ($224 million), well above expectations of 5.7 billion yen and up from a loss of 8 billion yen a year earlier. Increased demand for Wii U games and a weaker yen boosted the results; Nintendo left its full-year sales forecast unchanged at 590 billion yen.October 29, 2014

Michael Sata, 77, was receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness. Zambian vice president Guy Scott will be the acting leader until elections are held in 90 days. Scott is the first white leader of an African country since South Africa’s apartheid era.October 29, 2014
