AUSTIN (AP) - Land commissioner-elect George P. Bush has hired a staff of five for his transition team ahead of his Jan. 2 swearing-in.
Former Bush senior campaign adviser Trey Newton heads the team, which includes communications director J.R. Hernandez and press officer Brittany Eck.
Hernandez said Wednesday that providing legal expertise are Ann Isdal, former general counsel for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and Dallas lawyer Hector Valle.
Meanwhile, Bush is transferring his business interests to his partner and receiving briefings on his new post.
He’s the 38-year-old grandson of one former president and nephew of another, and his father Jeb may mount a 2016 White House bid.
But George P.’s election last week made him the first in his famous political family to win his first election.
