Tampa International Airport is expected to announce it will add a new international flight and a new carrier Thursday morning.
A press conference at 10 a.m. will be attended by airport CEO Joe Lopano, Mayor Bob Buckhorn and other area leaders to announce a new international route on a new carrier, according to the Tampa Bay Times. This could be the third straight year such a route is added with Edelweiss Air adding service to Zurich, Switzerland in 2012 and Copa Airlines adding services to Panama in 2013.
The Tampa Bay Times reported the new route will be a direct flight offered by Lufthansa to Frankfurt, Germany. Last month Lufthansa German Airlines CEO Karl Garnadt said Tampa was one of the cities the airline was eyeing as part of a series of low-cost, long-haul flights.
