The Florida Department of Transportation has switched southbound traffic on U.S. Highway 19 from the frontage roads to the mainline U.S. 19.

That switch was scheduled to occur late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning south of Gulf to Bay Boulevard, according to WTSP. On Thursday evening FDOT is scheduled to move northbound traffic from frontage roads to mainline U.S. 19.

The change will mean two lanes are open in each direction while a third lane will remain closed as a contractor works on ramp connections and other improvements, WTSP said.

The lanes had been scheduled to open on Oct. 15, but where delayed due to "weather, equipment failures, and the lime rock and earthwork being so wet from the rains," FDOT said.
