Supercharging has arrived in Dayton.

The electric vehicle maker Tesla has opened a supercharging station near the interchange of Interstates 70 and 75 to facilitate intercity travel for Tesla owners.

Tesla's business model includes building a network of fast charging stations — faster than any other electric vehicle manufacturer has developed — along the major interstates around the country so that Tesla owners can travel from city to city, which is often the biggest perceived drawback to owning an electric vehicle. Tesla offers the charging services for free, making the Superchargers a gathering place for members of the elite club that is Tesla owners.

Dayton's Supercharger is located at 9200 N. Main St. in Dayton, by the Englewood Meijer. Since it takes 20 to 30 minutes to recharge a Tesla to its full range of about 250 miles, visitors will likely be interested in checking out the local dining and shopping options, so the station may bring additional traffic to Chipotle, Steak 'n Shake and Meijer, all located nearby.

Landing a Supercharger station is just one of the many examples of advantages of being located along I-70 and I-75, two of the most important cross country interstates.
