When it comes to its business environment, Ohio sits in the middle of the road. In its annual "Best States for Business" ranking, Forbes slots Ohio at No. 26.

Forbes uses several criteria for the list, including cost of doing business, labor supply, regulatory environment, economic climate, growth prospects and quality of life.

Ohio got its best marks for its regulatory environment (No. 6 in the U.S.) and quality of life (No. 11 in the U.S.) However, its labor supply gave it bad marks (No. 48 in the U.S.)

Earlier this month, Ohio was ranked No. 28 for its business environment by CNBC.

The good news is that Ohio jumped 10 places from the previous year.

Utah was No. 1 on the Forbes list, followed by North Dakota and North Carolina. Mississippi was last.
