PARKER COUNTY, TX (CBSDFW.COM) - A Hudson Oaks firefighter is in the Parker County Jail, charged with two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, with bond totaling 300-thousand dollars. Even more disturbing, the alleged victims are reportedly relatives.

Firefighters are universally revered for saving lives. But tonight Richard Adams is accused of abusing at least two, according to Lt. Mark Arnett of the Parker County Sheriff’s Department.

“Any time we do these investigations we’re always looking for other victims. Generally speaking a person who will assault one child will assault multiple children,” he said.

Affidavits indicate the alleged offenses occurred at his home in Weatherford, at a former home on the outskirts of town, and in a truck at a nearby lake. In a sometimes graphic account one victim alleges Adams “would use both white tape and gray duct tape to bind her hands and feet together” when sexually assaulting her. Search warrants asked for computers, cameras, pornographic VHS tapes and discs as well as duct tape; numerous items were seized from the homes. Two tube-style televisions were abandoned outside his former home this afternoon.

“Somebody that you love and trust that would do something to your little kids would be hard to take,” Arnett told CBS 11 News.

A longtime neighbor privately shared that same sentiment with me, saying it was hard to imagine Adams could be guilty of such crimes. She said he dearly loved his family. Adams was a Fort Worth firefighter from 1977 to 2009; he has been suspended from the Hudson Oaks department pending the outcome of these investigations.

Arnett says a lot of people will be watching their progress.  “Public servants are generally held to a higher standard and that’s for a reason.  We’re not supposed to hurt people.”
