Alaska Airlines said it will launch nonstop daily service between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. next March.

Alaska Airlines, a unit of Seattle-based Alaska Air Group Inc., said with the new service, which begins March 11, the airline will now fly to the three major Washington D.C. airports; Reagan National Airport, Baltimore-Washington International Airport and now Dulles. The airline previously had served Dulles.

Alaska Airlines is in a tough battle with Delta Air Lines for supremacy at Sea-Tac Airport. With the Dulles flights, Alaska said in a statement that "with the new route Alaska is scheduled to increase its daily departures from Seattle by 11 percent by next spring, offering 282 peak-day departures to 79 destinations from Seattle, more than three times as many flights of any other airline."
