Toppan Printing Co. Ltd. will invest nearly $100 million to build a new plant in Griffin, Ga., that will produce environmentally friendly packaging.

The 113,600-square-foot facility will help Tokyo-based Toppan Printing boost its capacity to supply transparent barrier films, including GL Film, to food, electronics and medical packaging makers in North America and Europe.

Production at the Griffin plant is slated to begin in March 2016.

Toppan Printing has about 80 subsidiaries in Asia, Europe, and the United States, with combined annual sales of roughly $18 billion.
