Director Tim K. Smith tells us about his documentary “Sex and Broadcasting,” a look at the free-form radio station WFMU. He’s joined by Ken Freedman, WFMU’s station manager. “Sex and Broadcasting” is playing at IFC Center on November 15, 17, and 20, part of the documentary series DOC-NYC.

WFMU was important decades ago but is now irrelevant. The 90s are over and so is that station.
Hopefully that radio station in the middle of the FM dial, which is in constant fundraising mode, will finally collapse and relocate to the Internet where it can stand out among 10 million other streams.
All I need in my radio life are WFMU and WNYC.
I agree with culprit...WFMU's on-air fundraisers are far more fun than the banal pleas of WNYC.
I'm one of those passionate WFMU listeners. I love the unpredictability of it--that's what radio should be.
I also contribute financially every year. I choose to donate to WFMU rather than WNYC--partly because FMU's fundraiser's are far more enjoyable.
Why can't there be just one segment about video games, just for a change?
Please mention wfmu's excellent website, a must visit for fans of not only music but esoterica in general.
