More Midtown details. Grocery, hotel, multi-family, wide boulevards - this will transform Preston between LBJ and Alpha Road!  Time to buy some gold shovels at the Chamber!

High speed rail in Dallas? Some are working hard to make it a reality.

What do you think of the idea?

Wow. I hope this doesn't fall through. It would be cool to have a bullet train in the DFW area.

This was the setting on Friday morning an hour ahead of the Transportation Crossroads Conference. Kudos to Chamber staffers Carol Short, Lizeth Winkles, Paul Maynard, Bob Duncan and Geoeffery Williams for their always stellar planning and event execution. This was a tremendous conference in every measure as the result of their efforts. Of course I must also thank our many sponsors who offer their counsel on event topics and speakers, and then lean on their relationships to brings us such tremendous speakers and content.

This scene began to change about 7:00 am as attendees began to arrive, and coffee began to flow! By 7:30 we were underway with the first of a more than a dozen leading voices on topics ranging from government funding and legislative agendas, to high speed rail, to Dallas' two world class airports, all capped with a lunch keynote by TXDOT Commissioner Jeff Moseley who challenged the assembled group to think boldly about the need for continued investment in all things infrastructure related, from ports, to rail, to trucking and highways, as 1,200 new Texans arrive in our great state daily.

If you don't already know about it, Dallas' own Cafe Momentum is at work changing the life experiences of troubled youth through fire and flame.  Executive Director/Founder/Chef Chad Houser leads the way, and is getting some well-deserved attention.  They'll be opening a Thanksgiving Square area restaurant later this year.  Chad was a speaker at a Chamber Leadership Briefing a few weeks ago.

Battery technology that can serve Texas' utility grid? Oncor CEO Bob Shapard says yes, and UT Austin energy expert Webber says it will be a game changer.

Come hear them both at the NDCC Energy Conference on November 19. Tickets online at www.ndcc.org our call us at 214 368 6485.
The Dallas utility is asking the state to authorize $5.2 billion in storage projects it says will lower bills and improve reliability.

Several months ago I agreed to participate with a group of CEOs across America in promoting healthy living within the workplace. The great news at the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce is that every one of our staff members is quite physically active - to include runners, golfers, gym enthusiasts and cyclists.

That said, I am a proponent for spreading the word about exercise, and will, from time to time, point out an article that fits well within that emphasis.

Here's the first:

If you missed 60 Minutes yesterday, you missed great insights into the handling of Eric Duncan's Ebola illness at Texas Health Resources Presbyterian Hospital.  You'll hear significant contrasts between what was initially reported, what the CDC originally said, and what the actual nursing staff assigned to care for Mr. Duncan.

It is all about the relationship!
Introduction
North Dallas Chamber of Commerce president & CEO since 2011, 30 years as a commercial banking executive and manager prior to that.  I personally enjoy working with entrepreneurial businesses on matters related to their capital structure, banking relationships, marketing, accountability, corporate culture, and governance, and love the challenges afforded me as a chamber executive in working to leave a legacy of leadership on issues critical to our region's continued success - water, education, transportation all high on that list.

I served as board chair for The Concilio in 2011, and now serve on the board of the Woodrow Wilson High School Community Foundation as well as on the Corporate Friends of the Library committee.

Deanna and I are empty-nesters (not counting our two 75 pound boxers!), and we love to travel to Santa Fe and the Caribbean, and you will often find us riding together on our Co-Motion tandem bicycle at local bike events, and camping in our CampLite travel trailer.

Yum! Yum! Yum! We try to visit Emporium Pies every time we are in Oak Cliff. They make delicious fare! I most recently enjoyed a buttermilk chess pie, while others lavished praise on their pumpkin, chocolate and pecan pie siblings. GO!

Huge dent on passenger side of Toyota Tundra doublecab after getting too close to the fence. I expected to see most evidence of dent eliminated. Instead - you cannot tell there was ever a dent at all! Some small scratches, yes, but NO DENT! Awesome work by Phil. Thank you so much!
