Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had a lot to say Thursday about the future of his talented, but injured quarterback, Tony Romo.
First, he expects Romo will play on Sunday in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Second, he thinks Romo likely has five good years ahead of him as a player.
And third, Romo eventually will become an NFL offensive coordinator.
Sounds like Jones has it all figured out.
Jones made the statements to the media at the Cowboys' temporary practice facility at Allianz Park in London, where the team is preparing for its game Sunday against the Jaguars, Dallascowboys.com reported.
"I'm anticipating him playing, have no reason to think that he won't, and this will be a nice little practice session for him out there today," Jones told the media as Romo practiced for the first time in England. "But my expectations are for him to play."
Romo suffered two fractures in his surgically-repaired back two weeks ago when he was sacked during a game against the Washington Redskins. He hadn't practice since then -- until Thursday.
And how long will Romo's playing career last?
"I think Tony Romo has at least five years," Jones told the media. "I'm planning on him having at least five years of playing at a level that would allow us to be possible contenders from that position, and maybe not doing some things that he had earlier as well or maybe with the energy or the efficiency he has, but maybe doing other things better."
Once Romo's playing days are done, Jones said he'd be glad to help Romo move into coaching.
"He has aspirations at least certainly at this time, and has said to me, of eventually being an offensive coordinator in the NFL when he grows up," the owner said. "Seriously, in the future, he has that kind of interest."
