ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – The Texas Rangers have declined the $14 million option for 2015 on outfielder Alex Rios, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports.

The club will instead pay Rios a $2 million buyout. Rios will now become a free agent.

Rios struggled with injuries in 2014, playing in just 131 games after suffering from thumb and ankle injuries. He missed the team’s final 22 games after bruising his right thumb.

Last season, the 33-year-old batted .280 with 54 RBIs and just four homeruns — his lowest total since his rookie season.

The Rangers could look within the organization to replace Rios in right field, alongside likely starters Leonys Martin and Shin-Soo Choo.

Michael Choice, Daniel Robertson, and Jim Adduci all received time in the outfield last season. The Rangers will be forced to make some decisions with their 40-man roster this offseason.
