Shermco Industries acquired a Minnesota company that will be a critical hub for Shermco's northern expansion, the company announced Thursday.

Irving-based Shermco bought Electrical Mechanical Services, a 35-year-old company. EMS is based in Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, a suburb of St. Paul.

Like Shermco, the company repairs electric and generator motors and other equipment servicing. Shermco will add wind energy services to EMS' capabilities, including electrical power system testing and maintenance.

EMS' existing management team, including Art Anderson, the founder and vice president of EMS, will continue to serve in the same capacity.

"We are excited and proud to welcome Mr. Anderson and his fine company, Electric Mechanical Services, to Shermco Industries," said Ron Widup, president and CEO of Shermco Industries. "EMS has great employees who are dedicated to the company and the industry. It already provides many of the services that we offer and will springboard our capabilities into this region of the country."

Shermco has a partnership with GFI Energy Group, part of Oak Tree Capital Management LP, that provides access to private equity for M&A transactions.

In December, Shermco acquired Magna electric, an independent electric service provider in Western Canada. Overnight, Shermco doubled in size to more than 1,000 employees.
