GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - A 34-year-old man from Rice, Minn. is facing theft charges after authorities say he admitted stealing another hunter's deer carcass that was hanging in a tree.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office was notified of the theft on Sunday afternoon when a group of hunters noticed the deer was missing. The group had several deer carcasses hanging in a tree at a residence. They told police they left for a short time and when they returned, they noticed one deer was missing.

A few members of the group told authorities they saw a silver car leaving the area with a small buck tied on top of the vehicle. The hunters drove in the same direction as the car and later spotted it with the deer on top.

The hunter that shot the deer told police he tied a colored latex glove on one of the deer's legs and could still see the glove on the deer.

The hunters called 911 to report the theft. Authorities located the vehicle in Upsala and spoke to the owner.

The man admitted he had been hunting and was wasn't successful so when he saw the deer hanging in the tree, he decided to cut it down and take it, according to police.

The deer was returned to the holder of the deer tag.

The alleged thief is facing charges.
