Ryan Van Alfen

I’m lucky to be one of the first to meet with parents and educators of prospective Athlos schools. I get to know your organization, understand community priorities, and help underwrite the partnership.

I feel so strongly about the importance of charter schools in our educational system, I set aside my dental practice to create Athlos and The Charter School Fund. I’ve been developing successful projects since 2006.

I see charter schools as a productive way to challenge the status quo. It’s a bit of a personality trait (my dad always said I am “obstreperous”), but I like how charter schools challenge the traditional education model for the better. Now schools finally have to treat families and students as customers.

Ryan founded Athlos with Jason Kotter in 2006. He serves as Principal and directs strategy, new market expansion, school underwriting, and the overall vision for Athlos.
