Need a job? Want to work for the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs?

The team's parent company, Spurs Sports & Entertainment is among several companies participating in the Ready, Set, Work! Eastside Job Fair on Nov. 18.

The City of San Antonio's Economic Development Department has teamed up with the Office of EastPoint & Real Estate Services to host the event. In addition to the Spurs, automotive supplier Arvin Sango, H-E-B, Frost Bank, FedEx Ground, United Parcel Service (UPS), among other organizations, are looking for help and are expected to have recruiters present at the job fair, looking to fill a range of positions.

"A primary purpose of our economic development efforts is to ensure our citizens have access to jobs," said Rene Dominguez, director of the city's Economic Development Department.

There is a concentrated effort to create new economic development and employment opportunities on the East Side. In January, President Barack Obama unveiled plans for a comprehensive Promise Zone initiative aimed at lifting up some of the nation's poorest communities. San Antonio's East Side was one of the first areas in the nation designated as a Promise Zone.

Office of EastPoint Director Mike Etienne says several initiatives are in play, including the job fair, which show a "firm commitment to rejuvenate" San Antonio's East Side.

The Ready, Set, Work! Eastside Job Fair is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 18 and will be held at the Second Baptist Church Community Center on East Commerce Street. The event is free and open to the public.
