Our Lives Depend on Natural Gas

Natural Gas

The Office of Fossil Energy in the U.S. Department of Energy recently published a classroom poster, Common Products Made from Oil and Natural Gas, that asks the question, “Did you know most of this stuff comes from oil and natural gas?”

The poster is produced as an educational item for children, but it is beneficial for all ages. It is a good representation of the many products we use in our daily lives that are made from natural gas and oil derivatives. From air mattresses to lipstick to plastic to yarn, almost every product we use daily is either made directly from natural gas or oil or has components that are.

The fact remains: Virtually everything produced today contains some form of plastic or synthetic fiber, and these products are derived from petroleum feedstocks. So whether you are aware of it or not, our lives depend on natural gas.

The Office of Fossil Energy provides posters free of charge for classroom use in K through 8th grade. Email FECommunications@hq.doe.gov for a free poster. This informative poster is beneficial to children as well as adults.
