HOUSTON (AP) — A British citizen must serve five years in a U.S. prison and repay more than $13 million for discount fraud targeting computer maker Hewlett-Packard Co.

Mark Allan James of Stockport, England, was sentenced Wednesday in Houston.

Jurors in May convicted the 48-year-old James of conspiracy in a case involving the purchase of computers and equipment at undeserved large discounts.

Prosecutors say James since 2009 recruited businesses to buy computer items and wrongly took advantage of an HP discount plan meant for large-volume purchasers. The computers and equipment, bought at a discount in agreements for use only by those companies, was then resold.

U.S. District Judge Lee Rosenthal ordered James to pay nearly $13.4 million in restitution. No date was immediately set for him to report to prison.
