Computer Technician Pleads Guilty To Data Theft
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A computer technician working for the Coast Guard has pleaded guilty to charges he stole personal information from hundreds of computers and personal electronic devices brought in for repair.
Federal Authorities say Larry Mathews of Pawcatuck entered his plea Wednesday in federal court in Hartford.
Authorities say Mathews copied personal information and files from computers and personal electronic devices more than 250 times. The personal information and files included account names and passwords and sexually explicit photographs and videos.
Mathews was accused of sharing the stolen personal information with an individual who informed law enforcement.
He faces up to five years in prison and a fine of as much as $250,000 when he’s sentenced Feb. 4.
