Pop icon Justin Bieber is well-known as a sports fan that enjoys attending games. In recent years, though, he has angered many different fan bases across multiple sports for what is being called the “Curse of Justin Bieber”. It seems every team he supports goes on to find failure. Just hope he doesn’t come to a stadium near you anytime soon:

Pittsburgh Steelers:

The most recent victim of the curse, Bieber made a surprise visit to the team’s Bible study last Saturday. Numerous players took pictures with him and posted them to social media. The next day, the Steelers lost to the 1-8 Jets, after putting up a combined 98 points the previous two games against the Colts and Ravens. Ben Roethlisberger, meanwhile, threw two interceptions and a garbage time touchdown. This came after he set an NFL record with back-to-back six touchdown games the previous two weeks. Chicago Blackhawks:

Players and fans are very superstitious about some things, especially when it comes to the team logo. The NHL takes it to the extreme with the logo that’s in the middle of the locker room: under no circumstances is it okay to ever step on it. Doing so is considered disrespectful. Alas, when taking a picture of the Stanley Cup last July, the Canadian-native Bieber didn’t just step on the edge. He was smack in the middle of it.

Of course, the Blackhawks followed up their Stanley Cup-winning season with a heartbreaking overtime loss in Game 7 of the Western Conference Final to the eventual champ Los Angeles.

Spanish national team:

The defending World Cup champs were among the favorites to repeat this summer in Brazil. Then Bieber posted a photo on Twitter of him holding a Spain jersey, and disaster struck. La Roja went into full meltdown mode.

In their group stage opener Spain lost to the Netherlands in a 2010 finals rematch 5-1, the biggest loss ever by a defending champion. In their next match, the Spanish lost again, falling to Chile 2-0 and eliminating themselves from advancing. They became the first champion since 1950 to be knocked out after two games, making their third game against Australia irrelevant.

The two-time defending champs tried to rid themselves of the Bieber curse, but inevitably failed. In January, just a week after the pop star was arrested in Miami, the team withdrew Bieber’s tickets to their game against the Lakers. Their reasoning was so as not to attract unnecessary attention away from the game. There were even rumors that the team banned him from AmericanAirlines Arena, which owner Mickey Arison denied.

Maybe they should have. The Heat, after all, failed in their quest for a three-peat, getting blitzed by the Spurs in the finals. They then lost LeBron James, who returned to Cleveland this season (and it should be noted, Bieber was at the Cavs’ home opener this year…)
