UNION COUNTY, N.C. (CBS Charlotte) — A North Carolina mother is upset with her son’s worksheet on Islam when he filled in an answer stating that “Most Muslims’ faith is stronger than the average Christian.”

The mom, who did not want to be identified, showed WJZY-TV the assignment her freshman son at Porter Ridge High School had to complete.

She was concerned about the answer her son gave saying that the faith of a Muslim is stronger than that of a Christian.

She explained to WJZY that she called the school to find out if they teach Christianity in a similar way and said she didn’t get an answer from the school about how they teach it. She also claims her son informed her that they just “skimmed Christianity in class.”

“If you’re gonna do it, let’s do it right. I really feel like there’s a spin on this,” she told the station.

WJZY has reached out to the school to receive a complete and correct version of the worksheet, but they have yet to respond. However, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction sent the station a statement.

“The State Board of Education (SBE) adopts the NC Standard Course of Study – what students should know and be able to do at the end of a grade or course. The SBE does not dictate what curriculum and/or instructional materials should be used to teach the standards. Those are local school district decisions,” the department told WJZY.

A Union County Schools spokesperson told WJZY that the high school principal indicated that the school will be studying Christianity more in depth and that the student filled in the blanks on the worksheet on his own.
