Environmental testing begins at Bannister Federal Complex

CenterPoint Properties has now begun environmental and engineering testing of the Bannister Federal Complex in Kansas City, The Kansas City Star reports. Testing of the 300-acre site could take up to 18 months.
CenterPoint, which redeveloped Kansas City's Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, plans to also redevelop the Bannister site.

Once tests are completed, the Chicago-based company will develop an environmental restoration plan.
During World War II, the site was a warplane engine manufacturing facility. Following the war, non-nuclear parts for the United States' national defense system were produced on-site.
