Urban Land Institute has selected Houston to host its 2015 Spring Meeting, the first time the organization has held one of its two major meetings in the Bayou City since 1992.
The event, which typically draws up to 3,000 attendees from around the world, will be held May 13–14 at the Hilton Americas Houston.
"The meeting, which will focus on creative community building for the 21st century, will include an emphasis on communities that have built on their strengths in the post-recession years to be economically prosperous, environmentally sound and highly livable," ULI said in a statement. "Houston's booming energy economy, technology and research jobs, downtown neighborhood revitalization, light rail, bikeway and green space additions are all contributing to the city's success in positioning itself as a vibrant place to live and work."
As such, ULI and PwC's "Emerging Trends in Real Estate 2015" report ranked Houston the country's No. 1 market to watch next year.
Hines">Gerald Hines, founder and chairman of Houston-based Hines, has been named the honorary chairman of the meeting. Midway CEO Jonathan Brinsden and Thomas Owens, Hines' senior managing director and chief risk officer, are the chairmen for the host committee for the meeting.
Pennzoil Place, developed by Hines, is up for a Development of Distinction Award from ULI Houston. Click here to see all of the 2015 finalists.
