Forbes: N.C. is third-best state for business

North Carolina moved up one spot on Forbes' annual ranking of the "Best and Worst States for Business."

North Carolina is No. 3 on Forbes' 2014 "Best and Worst States for Business" list.

That's a rung higher than last year's No. 4 ranking.

"With one of the highest net migration rates in the U.S., people have been flocking to North Carolina for the past decade," the report states. "They are chasing jobs."

Virginia slipped from No. 1 to No. 4, while Utah claimed the No. 1 spot, moving up from No. 3.

The 10 best states are as follows:

1. Utah

2. North Dakota

3. North Carolina

4. Virginia

5. Colorado

6. Texas

7. Nebraska

8. Washington

9. Minnesota

10. Oklahoma

And here are the 10 worst, according to Forbes:

41. New Jersey

42. Michigan

43. Vermont

44. Alabama

45. Hawaii

46. Rhode Island

47. New Mexico

48. West VIrginia

49. Maine

50. Mississippi
