Benderson Development Co. is adding to its local real estate portfolio with plans to construct a retailing out-parcel near a trio of hotels it owns across from Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

According to plans filed with the Town of Cheektowaga, Benderson will build a 10,000-square-foot, multi-tenant buildiing on Genesee Street. The building's tenants will all be retail- or restaurant-focused, said Erie Recoon, Benderson vice president.

Recoon said Starbucks has agreed to occupy one of the retail spaces. Negotiations are underway with other tenants.

The building is located in front of a Courtyard by Marriott, Town Place Suites and Fairfield Inn -- all Marriott properties developed by Benderson and run by its Buffalo Lodging affiliate.

Construction on the building is expected to start in the spring, and the building should be tenant-ready by early summer.

The development price tag, according to a building permit filed in Cheektowaga, is $400,000 for the shell, with tenant finishes to be determined.
