Couple To Wed Inside Hospital NICU

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A couple who experienced the death of one of their twin babies plans to wed in the very room at Cook Children’s Hospital where their other twin is fighting for his life.

“Colt will always be with us,” said the baby’s father, Justin Nelson.

Born in September of this year, Colt was a twin.

“He’s with us every single day,” said his mother, Kristi Warriner.

Colt’s brother named JJ, born weighing 1 pound 13 ounces, survived. He now weighs 6 pounds 5 ounces.

“To have your babies one moment and the next not have them and knowing that one has passed and one is struggling for his life… it was very difficult… very hard,” said Warriner.

JJ’s parents spend everyday watching over him inside the hospital NICU.

And now, right next to JJ’s crib, in the room where the couple said their faith was tested, they will commit to each other for life.

“He’s going to be the ring bearer (laughs) he’s going to have a onesie that will be a tux,” said Nelson of his surviving son. “We don’t want to leave him out.”

The marriage is a first for Cook Children’s.

“They’ve been through so much it’s the little things that we can do that can just help them out through their journey while they are here with us in the NICU,” said Nurse Manager, Jennifer Guenther.
