What's new with NPR.org on mobile?

NPR.org on mobile is transitioning to a new experience. After years of maintaining a separate mobile website, we are redesigning our pages to display appropriately on all sizes of screens. Whether you view the pages on a phone, tablet or desktop, the redesigned pages offer you all of NPR’s audio, photos, video, and other features.

Do I need a specific phone or device to access NPR.org on mobile?

NPR.org appears best on newer iOS and Android devices. Any web-enabled mobile device can access NPR.org on mobile, provided you also have a subscription to a data plan via your carrier. If you are uncertain about your data plan, please consult your device's documentation or ask your service provider if your plan includes web access.

How do I access the NPR.org for my mobile device?

In your device's browser, simply visit npr.org. You will receive the mobile NPR.org experience.

How do I find my station on the new site?

Tap on the menu icon in the upper-left, and then tap “Stations.” On the next page, search for your station and select "Save as my NPR station."

Where did the playlist and the favorite station features go?

We have discontinued these features on mobile devices due to lack of audience use.

Can I share stories with my friends?

Yes. At the bottom of every NPR.org story page, you will see options to share a story via email, Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.

What is the cost of NPR.org on mobile?

NPR does not charge a fee to use NPR.org. To use NPR.org on mobile devices, users need to have a subscription to a data plan through their mobile carriers. Charges will depend on the specific terms and conditions of the data plan a user has.

How do I bookmark the site?

Users should consult their instruction manuals or contact their service provider for information on how to create a bookmark on their particular device.

NPR Mobile Voice, as well as audio accessed through the "click-to-call" feature, use minutes from your calling plan. If you choose to send a text message (SMS) of a story to a friend from an NPR Mobile site, your standard text messaging rates will apply (remember that your friends may also be charged to receive the text, depending on their calling plan).

What is the difference between NPR.org on mobile and the NPR News apps?

To view NPR.org on mobile, you can simply use your device's built-in web browser to access NPR content, whereas a mobile application must be downloaded onto your phone. The NPR News app is designed to function with specific mobile devices, however NPR.org on mobile offers many of the same features available in the app and is designed to function on as many platforms as possible.
