Flowers from the French

Flowers from the French

By Lauren Smart

Flowers are nature’s beautifiers. We’ve appropriated them as tokens of affection or apology. We cut them from their roots and place them in vases to add color to our otherwise dull lives. Oh, and for centuries, we’ve painted them. Some of the 19th century’s greatest painters, including Cezanne, Manet and Courbet captured the vivid colors of flowers and their work is on display in Bouquets: French Still-Life Painting from Chardin to Matisse, at the Dallas Museum of Art (1717 Harwood St.) through February 8, 2015. See this special exhibition of paintings for $8. The DMA is open from 11 a.m.- 5p.m. Tuesday – Sunday, with late night programming on Thursdays through 9 p.m. More information at dma.org.
