DENTON -- Denton traffic will be backed up for a few hours Thursday as crews transport a large transformer to Southeast Texas.

Denton Municipal Electric will be using a subcontractor to take the electrical transformer from Airport Road in Denton to Bryan, Texas between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Officers with the Denton Police Department will be escorting it.

Because the cargo is so large, city officials say the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles has set a certain route, which will have a major impact on commuters.

The vehicles will travel:

  • From Precision Road, then east on Airport to Bonnie Brae
  • North on Bonnie Brae to the service road of I-35
  • From the service road to southbound Teasley to FM 2499
  • From FM 2499 to west FM 1171
  • South on I-35W

Officials say there will be closed intersections and a blockade of Teasley. They hope the transformer will be out of Corinth and Denton by 4 p.m.
