After Tuesday’s Denton City Council meeting that included an hour-long discussion on the Denton Community Market, founders Kati Trice and Vicki Oppenheim stepped out in the cool November air to check out two sites city officials presented as possible locations to relocate the market.

Fall color in North Texas is capricious and ephemeral. Often it’s too warm and too dry. Sometimes a strong storm sweeps all the leaves away. Or, a blue norther brings a hard freeze, leaving everything a lifeless brown.

New districts keep towns on their toes

Fall in Denton County was once a time of year when fields of coastal hay, wheat and even peanuts lined U.S. Highway 380. Combines, tractors and truckloads of workers labored from sunup to sundown harvesting crops and taking them to market. Evenings were spent by the fire or on a neighbor’s front porch swapping tales until the Sandman arrived.
