Fire in Historic Downtown Minneapolis Building Results in Rooftop Rescue

A fire early this morning caused workers to flee to the rooftop of a historic 10-story building in downtown Minneapolis.
Minneapolis First Battalion Police Chief Randy Miller said the fire was quickly controlled and no one was injured. He estimated about $50,000 in damages.
The fire started on the eighth floor when embers from welding hit 4 x 8 insulating foam.
Miller said floors 2-8 are vacant, but there are still occupied offices on floors 9-10.
"It was early enough in the morning where there's nobody in there, so we didn't have any injuries, just a couple of workers we had to get off of the roof," said Miller.
The Ceresota Building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Building owner Ross Dworsky had an application to convert the building from commercial office space into 57 units of senior housing approved by the city in January.
