It's just so damn crunchy

Unless you got to Dallas by way of Love Field, the West End is often a forgotten territory. The brick streets and sidewalks one traverses after hours of introspection at the Sixth Floor Museum are an afterthought, which is a shame because they offer more than just carriage rides and bad urban art; They're home to Ellen's Southern Kitchen.

I'm not going to say Ellen's serves up the best CFS you can get in Dallas, but I'll confidently say it's one of the crunchiest versions I've ever encountered. And while I know the steak is a big component, one of the most important parts of any CFS experience is that salty, crunchy crust.

The last time I had one, I was a bit upset that the crust didn't cling to the meat a little better, but it was so damn crunchy I got over it. Ask for your gravy to be served on the side and you'll help preserve that texture as you saw off and dip each bite, one by one. Pay no mind to the green and potatoes that share the plate. You'll get to them, eventually.
