Confirmation that Amir Khan will meet the former world champion Devon Alexander in Las Vegas on 13 December is expected this week, with the Briton still aiming to fight the undefeated Floyd Mayweather.

Khan opted out of a proposed bout against Alexander last year in the hope he could face Mayweather but saw the American choose to fight Marcos Maidana instead.

Khan fought on the undercard of that victory over the Argentinian, beating Luis Collazo comfortably on points. And the Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya is confident the fight will take place this time, with the Mandalay Bay Casino the most likely venue

“Amir Khan looked good against my boy Collazo, but I have a feeling he wants to make a statement against Alexander, and Alexander is coming off a good win in a good action fight with Soto Karass. There are just little details that we are finishing but Khan and Alexander are going to fight,” the promoter Oscar De La Hoya told ESPN.com on Monday. “What’s happening here is they realise they have to prove themselves if they want to get a really big fight, like against Mayweather.”
