Buildings are major users of our potable water supply. The goal of this credit category is to encourage efficient use of water, inside and out, to reduce the burden on the municipal water supply.
The following strategies were utilized at the Pier G Operations Building to reduce the amount of potable water consumed.
1.28 gallon-per-flush High Efficiency Toilets (HETs), which save 20 percent over standard 1.6 gallon-per-flush toilets
0.125-gallon-per-flush "pint flush" High Efficiency Urinals (HEUs), which save 87.5 percent over standard 1 gallon-per flush-urinals
0.5 gallon-per-minute sink faucets, which save 80 percent over standard 2.5 gallon-per-minute sink faucets
With all conservation measures combined, the Operations Building at Pier G uses approximately 45 percent less potable water than a conventional office building that uses standard plumbing fixtures. This will result in an estimated savings of more than 65,000 gallons of potable water per year.
