Flashing Yellow Arrow Left Turn Signals
In an effort to increase safety and mobility along Southlake Blvd (FM 1709), the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will install flashing yellow arrow (FYA) left turn signals at the intersections along Southlake Blvd (FM 1709).

How will the new signals work?

Day Time (Peak) Hours:
  • Flashing Yellow Arrow (FYA) left turn signals have the capability of changing from permissive left turn signals to protected left turn signals.

Night Time (Off-Peak) Hours:

  • Most traffic signals will have a flashing yellow left turn arrow during night time operation (see below for exceptions).

Due to high traffic volumes and the need to maintain motorist safety, only one intersections will remain PROTECTED LEFT at all times:

-Davis Blvd

Check out the YouTube video below for a demonstration of the Flashing Yellow Arrow signal.

What do the arrows mean?

  • Steady red arrow = Stop. No left turns allowed.
  • Steady yellow arrow = Prepare to stop.
  • Flashing yellow arrow = Left turns allowed, but must yield to oncoming traffic.
  • Steady green arrow = Left turns allowed and protected.

Flashing Yellow Arrow (FYA) traffic signals are becoming more common around the Metroplex. The cities that now have FYA left turns in operation (or will soon have them) include:
  • Irving
  • Arlington
  • Allen
  • Dallas
  • Fort Worth
  • Carrollton
  • McKinney
  • Grapevine
