WILKES-BARRE — After 35 years in the state Department of Environmental Protection’s waste management division, William Tomayko is retiring at the end of October, DEP spokeswoman Colleen Connolly said.

Mr. Tomayko announced he would be stepping down as environmental program manager last week, she said. DEP is looking to fill the position.

Mr. Tomayko’s retirement comes as the DEP reviews a major expansion of Keystone Sanitary Landfill in Dunmore. Ms. Connolly said other waste management staffers are reviewing the landfill’s application, and Mr. Tomayko’s retirement won’t affect the review.
