Our Energy Moment Statement on DOE Conditional Approval of Jordan Cove Export Application

    March 24, 2014

WASHINGTON – Our Energy Moment (OEM), a diverse group of businesses and economic development organizations dedicated to raising awareness and celebrating the many benefits of expanded markets for liquefied natural gas (LNG), issued the following statement today after the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced that it has conditionally authorized Jordan Cove Energy Project, L.P. (Jordan Cove) to export domestically produced liquefied natural gas to countries that do not have a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States from the Jordan Cove LNG Terminal in Coos Bay, Oregon.

“This approval is not only welcome news for the economy and people of Coos Bay, Oregon, but for the entire country,” said Andrew Ware, a spokesperson for the OEM coalition. “This conditional license underscores the economic benefit that LNG exports can have in creating jobs while helping to strengthen our economy and improve our national security. OEM applauds the conditional approval by the DOE and looks forward to the Department addressing other license applications in a timely and thorough manner.”

Subject to environmental review and final regulatory approval, the facility is conditionally authorized to export at a rate of up to the equivalent of 0.8 billion standard cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of natural gas, for a period of 20 years.
