DENVER (CBS4) – Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall tried to put fans at ease on Xfinity Monday Live after the lopsided loss to the New England Patriots Sunday night.

“Everybody needs to calm down, it’s going to be okay,” Marshall said, reminiscent of early this season when Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers told Green Bay fans to “Relax” on his radio show after a 1-2 start.

The Packers then went on to win four in a row.

“When you really think about it, our first eight games, the first half of the season, we had tough games,” Marshall said. “We had the Colts, the Patriots, 49ers, the Seahawks … the Cardinals — they’re 7-1. So I know we have a great team. But we’re not going to just blow everybody out or win every game, you know, it’s not going to happen.”

But what fans are worried about is the way the Broncos lost – the game wasn’t even close.

“It was unfortunate. We didn’t execute the game plan. We definitely got outplayed,” Marshall said. “We’ve just got to go back, watch the film, which we did, and clean everything up and get back to the basics.”

The Broncos will try to get back to the basics against the lowly Oakland Raiders, a team that Marshall says will never be easy to beat for the Broncos. They are a division rival who has come close to beating some good teams.

On paper the Raiders are 0-8, but when playing a road game in the NFL, teams need to up the ante.

“It will never be easy, it’s a division opponent. I don’t care if they’re 8-0 or 0-8 … we’re going to prepare the same, we have to win our division first, and that’s our first goal,” Marshall said. “So we’re going to play them as if we’re playing the Super Bowl champions.”

The Broncos travel to Oakland to take on the Raiders this Sunday. Kickoff is at 2:05 p.m. on CBS4.
