SAN ANTONIO — Keep that rain gear out because the rain isn't going away.
Rain steadily has fallen in San Antonio and through much of South Texas on Wednesday, after more than 2 inches of rain fell on the Alamo City on Tuesday. Showers have remained steady throughout the day, but the intensity is not enough for the National Weather Service to keep a flash flood watch that was expected to expire at 6 p.m. It ended Wednesday afternoon.
"We're going to be seeing this rainfall through the rest of this evening, tomorrow as well," said Meteorologist Trevor Boucher. "Friday is still in question, but we have at least a chance of rain mostly south of the Ausin area through Friday."
There's a 90 percent chance of rain Wednesday night, when temperatures are expected to be in the upper 50s.
Thursday will be cloudy with showers in the forecast. There's a 60 percent chance of rain. Highs are forecast to be in the mid-60s. Thursday night, the chance of rain decreases to 20 percent, with lows predicted in the lower 50s.
Tuesday night's downpour caused numerous street closures, some of which still are in effect, as well as a traffic accidents.
A San Antonio police officer was injured after being rear-ended on a highway near downtown.
According to police, the officer had been stopped in traffic in the southbound lanes of U.S. 281 at Grayson Street when a woman driving an SUV slammed into the back of his vehicle.
Police said a combination of factors, including wet roads, contributed to the crash. The officer was complaining of back pain, and was taken to an area hospital as a precaution, police said.
The rain also brought cooler temperatures into the region.
Though the intensity of the rain has diminished, Boucher said everyone, especially motorists, should be cautious on the roads and in areas where the water levels have risen.
"The roadways will be slick, some of the rivers will be elevated, so anyone near (those areas) should be very careful," he said.
