Nasher enthusiasts gathered in the museum’s garden for the fourth annual Art Y’all hosted by the Nasher Sculpture Center’s Avant-Garde Society. The artful affair included food and drink, works by local artists, and inspired conversation.

Event chairs Megan and Brady Wood welcomed guests — including Catherine MacMahon, Doug MacMahon, Courtney Sinelli, Wanda Dye, Kevin Fink and Michael Corman — who sipped the evening’s signature cocktail, “The Paloma,” while surveying works created by the following Dallas artists:

• Rebecca Carter, who investigates the expansive notions of relationship as the basis for an ethical and aesthetic life through groundless thread drawings, video installation and photo-based projects.
• Lily Hanson, who creates sculptures that convey polarities between hard and soft through the use of materials such as colored fabric, foam, wood and wire.
• Sherry Owens, a crafter of crepe myrtle sculptures and large outdoor works in steel.
• The Color Condition, aka Sunny Sliger and Marianne Newsom, whose streamers made from plastic tablecloths, drop cloths and shower curtains create a beautiful environment of whimsy and play.

Each of these artists were tasked with creating a small work inspired by the Nasher’s building, garden or collection. The artists then gathered for a panel discussion with Nasher chief curator Jed Morse to discuss the ideas behind their works, which were auctioned off to benefit education funds at the museum.

Art Y’all is one of the Nasher’s many ways of incorporating Texas artists into the museum’s programming to promote not only the larger dialogue surrounding sculpture today, but also artists closer to home. The Avant-Garde Society is available to museum members at the Calder circle or above and includes behind-the-scenes tours; special sneak previews; intimate conversations with artists, curators and collectors; and unique day-travel opportunities.
