A Dreary Mythbuster

We often hear that mass shootings are not on the rise, despite our gut feelings to the contrary. But new research finds that public shootings like Newtown and Aurora are, in fact, happening more often. Brooke talks with Deborah Azrael, a research associate at Harvard School of Public Health, about the kinds of mass shootings that are on the rise, and why many have been getting it wrong.

Except for Canada's Parliament, all the shootings Brooke listed were in gun-free zones.
Canada's Parliament had only 1 victim.
Then an armed man killed the shooter, and ended the incident.

If changing a gun law could save just one life, would it be worthwhile?

If so, then it must be worth while to abolish the gun ban at schools. Armed citizens could have saved dozens by terminating most massacres in the average of less than 4 minutes, rather than the more than 20 minutes by the police.

Mass murderers prefer gun-free zones.

The average number of people killed in mass shootings, when stopped by police, is 14.29 dead.
The average number of people killed in a mass shooting, when stopped by a citizen, is 2.33 dead.
The average number of people killed in a mass shooting, when stopped by an unarmed citizen is 2.6 dead.
The average number of people killed in a mass shooting, when stopped by a citizen with a gun is 1.8.

So the best way to prevent mass shootings with many dead, is to enable armed citizens to be in most crowds.
This is best accomplished by allowing the law-abiding to carry guns.
