Twitter users call out Aaron Lewis for messing up national anthem in Game 5
SAN FRANCISCO - People took to to Twitter after the singer of the national anthem for Game 5 of the World Series messed up some of the words.
Aaron Lewis, the lead singer of rock band Staind as well as a country music singer, sang the national anthem ahead of Game 5 of the World Series between the Kansas City Royals and the San Francisco Giants.
During the second line of the song, Lewis sang, "What so proudly we hailed were so gallantly streaming." The correct words to the second line of the song are, "What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming." The line "were so gallantly streaming" comes a few lines later.
People noticed and quickly took to Twitter to let everyone know.
Aaron Lewis, you had ONE job! #smh #disrespectful

One person made a reference to one of Staind's hit singles to describe what went wrong:
I suppose it's, ahem, been awhile since Aaron Lewis practiced the lyrics to the National Anthem.

And MLB Yahoo! Sports columnist Jeff Passan brought up one of Lewis's many tattoos:
For someone who has DON'T TREAD ON ME tattooed on his neck, Aaron Lewis might want to learn his national anthem before he tries it again.
