Black Sand Dance || IcelandHere, on the black sand beaches of Southern Iceland, I’m consistently fascinated by the wealth of photography opportunities that always seem to present themselves. It’s a place where the conditions can literally change from hour to hour, making each visit a unique and special experience.
With the release of my new Travel Filter Kit by Formatt-Hitech, I’ve been really focusing on post-processing and releasing more new photos where I’ve used different Neutral Density Filters.
One of my favorite times to use a 4 Stop ND filter is when I’m working with moving water. In these situations, I can create a nice soft water effect simply by slowing the camera’s shutter speed down to 0.5 – 2.0 seconds. During daylight, a 4 stop ND is usually perfect for achieve this effect.
Overall, I consider the 4 Stop ND filter to be one of the most important tools in my photography kit. Four stops of neutral density is strong enough to slow shutter speeds down just a little bit, while not being dense enough to cause potential issues with the scene. Since four stops is a very light filtering effect, it works in a variety of different lighting scenarios ranging from midday to blue hour and twilight.
