A stone's throw from Winchester College and two doors from where Jane Austen took her last breath, P&G Wells Booksellers and Bindery draws you in. Old fashioned counters, creaking wooden floorboards and the aroma of an archive bring out the best of the book lover. Upstairs, you'll find one of the best stocked children's department in Hampshire. This emporium has been around for 250 years supplying books and stationery to Wykehamists. Complete with its in-house Book binder, this really is a book lover's paradise.

Photos and shoes were not allowed so this is a postcard picture. The library is part of an Abbey and is absolutely the most beautiful library I have ever seen. It is considered to be one of the oldest in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage Centre in a very lovely location.

This store has been in business for over fifty years and specializes in books to study for Civil Service exams.

It was the last evening of our holiday. We stumbled across this bookshop advertising English books..... I held a first edition Wordsworth. The chap who owns the shop, Rod, introduced himself: "Rod Browne. With an 'e'." Immediately as he said "with an 'e'." I thought of one other Browne, Sir Thomas Browne, author of Religio Medici. A statue of Sir Thomas is located on Haymarket, Norwich, which is how Rod and I came to this. Sir Thomas is one of Rod's ancestors. Amazing. As a youngster, this bookshop is everything I imagined....dusty wine bottles, artwork, and a wonderfully warm, funny, gentleman who loves books.
